DuskClan//FrostClan Border River

DuskClan and FrostClan's border is the main river, it being extremely deep nearer the beginning but shallowing out nearer the Gathering Island to allow cats to simply wade in the barely paw-deep waters to the Gatherings if they don't want to risk the slippery boulder leaps. This however also means the cats have easier access to each others' territories.

Erminepaw stumbled towards the shore, limbs burning and lungs aching. The water was moving oddly, pulsing like a vein, but she didn't have time to pay it much attention. She looked back to the collapsing mountain, spotting a thick plume of smoke in the distant peaks.

Poolstar skidded to a stop beside the apprentice, setting the two kits at her paws and glancing back. "The volcano," she gasped upon seeing the smoke, chest tight with fear. She looked to Erminepaw. "Where's Lichenpaw? Is she okay?"

Risingscorch set Moonkit by his sisters and panted hard, looking to Mapleglow. He leaned toward his mate, licking her ear.

Quartzshine stumbled and stopped behind Erminepaw, coughing. He collapsed to the ground. The medicine cat looked up at the sky and whimpered. He should have stayed and tried to save at least someone...

Mapleglow pressed against Risingscorch, shivering. What kind of world will our kits be born into?

"I don't, I didn't see, I'm sorry," Erminepaw choked out.

Wolfwatcher stumbled, heaving. "E-Erminepaw..." he gasped, trying to catch his breath. "Are you alright?"

Opalfrost couldn't slow down fast enough and skidded into the water, huffing.

Poolstar's throat closed up and she looked around to the cats around her, as well as the ones stumbling down towards them. She shivered with panic, a feeling of helplessness filling her chest as she realized so much of her clan was gone.

Quartzshine took some deep breaths and pulled himself to his paws. He had to be strong, for his clan. What was left of it, at least. He padded over to Poolstar. "Hey," he greeted her, failing to cover the fear and shock in his voice. He swallowed. "What if.. what if we can't go back to our territory? What if it's covered?"

Lichenpaw coughed as she made her way to the group, the steadying body of Hailfeather holding her on her paws. The tom dipped his head in greeting, then looked out towards the setting sun. "There's so much water..."

"Lichenpaw!" Poolstar let out a relieved cry and darted to her apprentice, burying her nose into the fur on her head. She looked back to the other cats, her gut telling her they had to move, and soon. "We'll head to the Mooncave!" She called, blinking away tears.

"Lichenpaw!" Erminepaw cried, rushing to greet her sister. Normally she would hate to show weakness but now she couldn't afford to act tough.

Lichenpaw grimaced as she accidentally put weight on her injured leg. "L-Lupinfrost..." she managed.

The leader's heart sank. She released a slow sob, bowing her head and shaking, the world spinning around her. "SoulClan, why?"

Risingscorch squeezed his eyes shut, then picked up Iriskit and Flurrykit, nudging Moonkit toward his mate with a pleading look on his features. The newborns had lost their mother, and he didn't know where Flickerlight was.

Mapleglow murmured comfortingly to the small kit, giving her a gentle lick on the forehead before lifting her by the scruff.

Erminepaw let out a pained sigh. "Just us now," she mewed to Lichenpaw, her voice cracking.

Softpetal had made it to the border. She stopped in her tracks, paws burning from the cuts of the rocks she had ran over. She looked around at all the cats, and realized that Dappleshine wasn't there. She gasped, sinking into the ground and sobbing quietly. She had nobody left. She was all alone. SoulClan, why? she thought, heart aching with sorrow and thinking about all the times she had failed to give her sister the love she deserved.

Glasspaw limped towards the shore, looking down and seeing a small cut on his left leg and watching the blood trickle. He couldn't even bother looking for his mother at this point. He was too traumatized by the sudden chaos that had just happened, and all so, so fast.

Snailnose stumbled over the rise, panting, legs burning from the run. She set Toadkit down, shaking.
Marshfeather was a few steps behind, feeling bile rise in his throat from exertion.

Mapleglow spotted cats arriving on the other end of the shore.

Autumnsky skidded to a halt and set Laurelkit down before glancing around for her apprentices. "Sunshadow? Peachpaw?"

Driftpaw collapsed and broke down into sobs as he thought of his parents, Tidalpaw, and Riptidepaw.

Scorchthicket arrived shortly after, pausing at the sight of the WaterClan cats. He sympathized with them, limping forward with Kitekit in his jaws.

Willowpaw stopped and sobbed, looking to Fallowpaw then glancing around for Emberpaw.

Poolstar froze at the sight of the other cats. They had survived! She moved to the edge of the shore. "Where's Robinstar?" She called.

Wolfwatcher stumbled over to Poolstar. "D-Do you think any more cats are coming?" His voice cracked as he spoke of his clanmates.

Hailfeather's eyes widened. "They need to come over this side," he mewed. "The cliffs are steeper here, the water won't wash them away."

Sootpaw stumbled to a halt, his breathing heavy. WaterClan?

Robinstar ran to the border as fast as her legs could carry her (which wouldn’t usually be very fast, but she was fuelled by a lot of emotions right now). She started taking deep breaths as soon as she arrived to the river, slowing down, her heart still racing even though her legs had stopped. Her mind started drifting back to what had just happened, and she quickly shut that train of thought down. Safety first, everything else could come later. She looked around, eyes searching for anybody else who’d made it. She noticed the other cats and her tail waved nervously, unsure what to do right now.

Sharktooth arrived with the rest of the WaterClan cats, breathing heavily. "Robinstar," he dipped his head, coughing. "I hope you don't mind our intrusion on to your land."

Fallowpaw stopped by the riverside, panting, heart hammering in her chest.

Hawksky slowed to a stop and looked back to Tulipsnow, eyes widened with sympathy.

Sunshadow dropped Peachpaw into the clearing, panting with all his might. "Autumnsky!" He called, before heaving into the river.

Bramblepaw stumbled aimlessly, mind up in SoulClan. He bumped into Scorchthicket numbly, stilling.

Coalpaw ran in after Bramble, colliding with a rock and face-planting into the dirt gracefully.

"Cross over!" Poolstar called, wading into the water and holding her ground. "It's not safe over there, please!" She couldn't see Turtlestar, and assumed the worst. The water was still coming, slowed by the higher altitude but pushing forward nevertheless.

“No, no. Right now, of course not,” Robinstar answered Sharktooth, attempting to stand taller. Like a leader, in these times of crisis. A leader who was still trying to catch her breath, of course. “Not like there’s much land right now.”

Marshfeather followed the call of the FrostClan leader, weakly paddling through the water towards the higher bank.

Fallowpaw started into the water, looking back for her siblings.

Snailnose stumbled towards the shoreline, so weak it felt like the earth still shook. "Toadkit, follow me," she wheezed.

Willowpaw followed immediately, bracing against Fallowpaw and sniffling. She shivered in the water, shaking out her fur when she reached the opposite bank.

Scorchthicket nodded to Sharktooth and picked Kitekit back up, wading through the water.

Autumnsky followed behind after plucking up Laurelkit, Driftpaw on her heels.

Hailfeather looked to his leader. "Should we help? They look exhausted."

Poolstar nodded and gestured with her tail. "Let's help them," she confirmed, wading further into the water and allowing either the WaterClan cats or DuskClan to lean against her as they crossed.

Fallowpaw followed behind Willowpaw, shivering as she lowered herself to the ground.

Erminepaw watched the cats cross the river, a dull ache in her belly. Was this all that was left of the Clans?

Wolfwatcher gazed at his apprentice from across the clearing, before following her gaze to the river. The Clans were in big trouble.

Briarstem limped over to meet the other cats, sore from all the tripping and tumbling that previously ensued. A wave of relief rushed over her when she saw her mother had made it out, but further observation made her notice how small their group was. Are we really all that's left? she thought.

Hailfeather padded into the water, feeling it tug at his belly fur and shivering slightly. He watched Swanpaw, face grim but firm, swimming easily and wondered how they were both Clan cats.
Sharktooth looked downstream. "We need to move," he warned the cats.
Tulipsnow took a breath and waded into the water beside Hawksky.

Poolstar nodded in response to Sharktooth. She looked to Autumnsky and Quartzshine. "Have SoulClan said anything?"

Autumnsky glanced up. She set Laurelkit down again. "We all need to go to the Mooncave. We'll be safe there for the night."

Hawksky absentmindedly twined his tail with Tulipsnow's as he walked.

"How do you know?" Snailnose croaked, voice tight.

Tulipsnow glanced back, immediately noting that Snailnose was a queen and feeling her heart swell. "I can feel it too," she mewed softly. "Usually at the half-moon it feels like this, but with everyone else with us it's more..." she looked at Hawksky. "More like family, calling to you."

"We'll be safe there tonight, Snailnose," Autumnsky mewed and picked up Laurelkit again, following Poolstar once the leader began trekking toward the Mooncave.

Willowpaw followed quietly after, watching Scorchthicket, Risingscorch, and Driftpaw all do the same. Everyone looked so exhausted... Would they even make it to the Mooncave? Were FireClan and BrightClan doing any better?

Fallowpaw walked alongside Willowpaw, head hung.

Erminepaw trotted by Lichenpaw's side, trying to stave off her exhaustion

Mapleglow followed the path towards the Mooncave, Moonkit hanging from her jaws.

Marshfeather walked at the edge of the group, legs aching.

Quartzshine was silent. SoulClan hadn't said anything, not even a hint. He sighed, looking at Poolstar, and shook his head. His heart was heavy. He failed his clan...

Flickerlight stumbled along, catching up to the rest of his decimated clan. He was numb, both from shock and grief. But he had to find his kits. SoulClan let them be alive... At least let me still have them. He spotted his three children with Risingscorch and half-ran towards them.
"Thank SoulClan!" He nosed each of his kits, finding no injury. He looked up at his clanmates. "Thank you so much... But Frostflower didn't make it. How will I feed them? They can't eat prey yet." He shifted his weight his ears flat. Anxiety prickled in his chest.

Adderfang and Emberpaw padded softly behind who was left of DuskClan.

Scorpionbite took deep breathes as she trekked forwards with WaterClan.
Peachpaw shivered, watching the sorrow in everyone's eyes with a frown. She was thankful that she still had Sunshadow and Autumnsky, but she couldn't imagine the pain of her Clanmates who had lost family.

Softpetal and Glasspaw brushed pelts to comfort each other as they followed the path to the Mooncave.

Finchstar pushed through the bushes to the river's edge, almost walking into the raging stream and managing to scramble back on to solid ground. "Careful!"

Floralight skidded to a stop before pawing the bushes away carefully. She glanced down into the stream with uncertainty.

Cedarpaw almost bumped into Floralight in surprise, losing his footing for a moment. "Hey! What gives?" He panted, plopping onto the ground.

Littledawn tensed and leaned against Martenstrike as the moving group was halted, raising her head with Melodykit remaining in her jaws. She looked to Finchstar and Stagshade, hoping the leader and deputy could provide a solution.

Martenstrike froze at Littledawn's touch.

"We should be getting close!" Tanglepath called back to the group.

"Let's hope we do," Nightbrook muttered, worry coating her tone. She looked to the raging river and sighed, eyes squeezing shut. When she felt Rowanscar gently nudge her, she relaxed somewhat, sighing.

Littledawn looked between her kits, worry gnawing at her gut as the rain soaked them despite her and Timberblaze's efforts to keep them dry.
